The five-time Cy Young Award winner retired Milwaukee's second batter of the game, Mike Cameron, on three pitches to take sole possession of second with 4,673 strikeouts. He entered the contest tied with Clemens for second.

Johnson is looking up at only Nolan Ryan, who sits atop the list with 5,714 career strikeouts.
